A Quick Update

I realize it's been a month since our last post-but for Pete's sake I'm exhausted!! This semester is a toughy for adam and I. Adam is taking 18 1/2 credits (I know, psycho!) and I'm in Student Teaching in 1st grade (enough said). We're both enjoying the journey but already can't wait for it to be over! I graduate in 3 months and I can't hardly believe it. I never thought I'd love teaching as much as I do, but I am SO glad I've made it my chosen profession (second to parenting, of course). I could go on and on with cheesy and nostalgic comments, but I'll wait until April for that.
Since our last post, we spent Christmas in California with my family and had a blast! It was so fun having almost everyone (minus Tyler who is on his mission) together for my absolute favorite holiday! Besides having the stomach flu spread through the house at the end of the trip, we had a great time playing too much rockband, lots of games, eating delicious food, opening presents, going on morning walks, playing basketball on the sport court, footie pajamas, ugly sweater bowling, and watching movies. Although family get-togethers are slightly stressful with such a big family-I love it!
We drove back home on New Year's Eve, and spent a much-needed quiet and exhausted evening at home together. Duke spent the next few days getting over the trauma of spending a week with my parent's tormenting bigger dog, and sleeping off the Tylenol P.M. we gave him to keep him pleasant for the long drive home.
A few days later, much too early for our liking, we began yet another semester. My Student Teaching is in Shelley, which is about a 45 minute drive each morning and evening. My cooperating teacher is quite possibly the best in the business, and I am SO lucky to learn from her. I'm extremely intimidated to even teach in front of her, and let alone when I start taking over the entire day of teaching, but she's always so positive in her feedback! My kids are a joy and I learn so much from them, and only hope that I can make some kind of difference in their fragile lives!
Well I'd say that's about enough of an update for now. We're busy busy and hardly have time for anything but eat, sleep, and school, but today I heard a quote that has helped me put things in perspective:
"I could have been happy, if only I had stopped to realize how happy I was." (I could be butchering it) We spend so much time thinking how happy we'll be when we graduate, or when we finally have kids of our own, or when we have money to our name, but if only we would stop and realize how great our lives are right this very minute!

Lights Out

So last night, the power went out from Idaho to Wyoming (not all cities, but a lot of them!) Apparently, the transformers blew and lit the sky in Rigby like the noonday sun, leaving us completely electricity-less for about 3 hours. How did we handle it? Let me paint the picture for you:
6:30ish Abbie drops off her 2 kids after getting called in to work-kids are almost 2 and 3 months
7:30ish Daniel and Sarah drop of their 3-month old baby and head off to the Temple
7:31 Adric falls asleep (sigh)
8:00 Power goes out as Adam is coloring with Adelyn and I'm playing peek-a-boo with Ethan
8:05 We assume power will not be restored and light every candle we have in the house
8:06 I realize I have a candle addiction (after lighting 5 candles and still having about 8 left)
8:15 Ethan falls asleep
8:30 Adric wakes up
8:35 Jordan picks up the thoroughly exhausted Adric and Adelyn
8:36 We realize we have a camping lantern in the garage-let there be light!
8:45 Daniel and Sarah pick up Ethan (after an ended Temple session due to no lighting)
9:00 We decide to go for a drive and see how some friends are doing-we end up at Daniel and Sarah's chatting in the candlelight
10:00 Head home and drink a ton of orange juice so it doesn't go bad (does OJ go bad? maybe that was just an excuse cuz I wanted to drink it all)
10:15 Crawl into bed with extra blankets, Duke, and a movie on the laptop
10:45 Power comes back on and the magic is gone-we go to sleep.
WHEW what a night! I felt like a Pioneer...only with a car and Orange Juice.

Our Dirty Little Secret

We have a new obsession. Now before I tell you and you are forced to judge me, let me give you the full story. I have always had an obsession with everything Celtic for as long as I can remember. This is the reason we went to Scotland this last summer. This is the reason I took Irish Dancing lessons when I was in junior high. This is the reason I have earrings in my jewelry box made from "Blarney Stone" and tons of travel books and magazines for Scotland and Ireland in the bathroom. Well, when I was younger my mom introduced me to this Irish singing group. I listened to them on cassette for a while, then I kinda forgot about them. Well, they've been around for years now, although most of the singers have gradually changed over the years.
Well, we were flipping through the channels a week ago with PingPong and Ruby, and I saw on the guide an encore viewing of a live concert by this group. I stopped on it, and we ended up being glued to it for the next hour or so until it was over. Then we proceeded to watch tons of youtube videos because we couldn't get enough. Adam opened iTunes and insisted that I purchase one of their CDs. We had a concert, Adam and I, in our bathroom this morning as we got ready for the day. I'm telling you we're absolutely obsessed!
So...are you dying to know who the group is? I'll tell you: they're called "Celtic Woman". I know, sounds cheesy, but they're INCREDIBLE! 4 gorgeous women (from age 20-30 something) with simply divine voices, and they sing only Celtic music. Some in Gaelic, most in English, but all original Celtic music. I remembered loving their music when I had the cassette, but this newest group of 4 (because they're always changing) really has something special. They just click better than any of the other ensembles did.
Look them up, you'll love them!! They're on tour right now promoting their latest CD "The Greatest Journey"-which is the CD I ended up buying-and my new DREAM is to see them live at the castle they perform at in Ireland (which was where the concert was that we watched on tv). Find them on youtube. Our favorite songs are "The Call", "O America", and "You Raise Me Up" (but you have to make sure it's the version by the newest group cuz the older ones aren't as great).
Have I sold you yet?

On the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd Day of Thanksgiving...

...I am thankful for music, books, and good friends. I've always wished I had the talent for Broadway or even a recording contract! I love singing, dancing, and music that just makes you feel good! Among my all-time faves: Amos Lee, Carrie Underwood, Kalai, Michael Buble, and Rascal Flats.
Books are my most addictive drug! "My trouble is in finding time for everything else." Some of my favorite books and most recent finds: Christy, The Invisible Wall, Shadow of the Moon (and anything M.M. Kaye), and many others! I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read! Give me a good book and a comfy poolside chair, and I'm one happy girl!
Lastly, good friends are hard to find, and seem to be made in the most difficult circumstances. I've made the best friends I've ever had at the hardest times of my life. I guess that goes to show that Heavenly Father will never leave us alone in our weakest hour.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE. WE HOPE IT'S A GREAT ONE FOR YOU ALL!

On the 5th Day of Thanksgiving...

...I am thankful for education. Without it, I would not have the immense blessing of being a teacher (almost). I love my students, cherish my time with them, and feel that I am able to do something truly special and important. Namely, I am grateful for BYU-Idaho. I cannot think of a better place for me, and have never felt anything but at home here. I feel there is a very special plan for this University, and am grateful to have been a part of its beginnings for the last 5 years. (In short, for those of you who know what I'm talking about and may ridicule me for it...the Spirit of Ricks lives inside me and always will!)

I tried to attach a video about BYU-I that I just love, but couldn't get it to work. Sad. So you can go here: http://www.byui.edu/news/newsreleases2006/060906clarkdevotional.htm and watch it if you like. Click on the "video" link a couple paragraphs down in the article. Enjoy.
Also, we put up our Christmas decorations today. And it was a happy day. Somehow, Christmas decorations still hold the power to make up for a truly crappy day. The end.

On the 6th Day of Thanksgiving...

...I am thankful for family. My family has always been not only a strong support system, but a comic relief as well. As I get older, and our family continues to grow, I am increasingly grateful for what I have.

On the 7th Day of Thanksgiving...

...I am thankful for the Gospel. How blessed we are to have the fullness of the Gospel in our day. We believe that we have a loving Father in Heaven who speaks to us still and cares about or choices and well-being. He answers prayers (even when it's not always in the way we expect), and loves us enough to give us trials which test our faith and make us stronger still. We have a modern-day Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, who leads His Church on the Earth and guides us in the way He would Himself. We have eternal families. When this life is over, we won't have to be without our loved ones forever, because He has sealed us into eternal families. What hope and meaning the Gospel brings to my life!

John 21: 15-17
15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
